📄 2024-04-23 Incident – Chatham Police
I approached police to report being tracked. Instead of protection, I was treated with suspicion.

Dana reported finding spider egg sacs beneath both rubber and carpet floor mats in her Tesla—after the vehicle had forced to be left unlocked during a time of heightened safety concerns. Brown recluse spiders had already been found in her storage units despite recent fumigation. Although Dana requested an officer come inspect the evidence in person, police declined, instead speaking with her mother and offering extra patrols.

Concerns:

  • The incident raised fears of intentional sabotage.

  • The officer never visited the vehicle despite photographic evidence.

  • The report mischaracterized Dana’s request and contained inaccurate narrative framing.

  • Dana’s vulnerability increased due to previous break-ins and vehicle security issues.

Summary:

  • Dana discovered spider egg sacs under both the rubber floor mats and the carpet floor mats of her Tesla.  Live brown recluse spiders were discovered in her storage units prior to moving her belongings, despite recently fumigating.

  • When she told her ex-husband about the storage units he became angry about the spider spray/bombs as he was complaining that she didn’t tell him – and then the spiders were alive in the units after this incident.

  • She took pictures as evidence and contacted the police. However, the responding officer spoke to Dana's mother and opted not to visit the scene.

  • Dana requested an officer to view the evidence in person but they refused.

  • The officer offered extra patrol which she accepted.

Concerns:

  • Evidence of planted spider sacs supports fears of intentional sabotage.

  • Police did not conduct an in-person investigation, further undermining Dana’s safety.

My Response to Incident Report: 2024-00004174

  • Issue: The provided records appear to be incomplete; I request the full narrative to fulfill the FOIA request.

  • False Statements/Clarifications:

    • Spider Egg Incident: Officer Harris did not physically inspect the vehicle as requested, despite the presence of photographic evidence and my request for in-person verification. This omission of additional context and witness testimony, including statements from my mother, Irma Jonna Veach, should be addressed.

    • Order of Protection: The officer’s statement suggesting I was advised to contact the State Attorney’s Office for an OP is inaccurate. This was not advised, and the State’s Attorney’s Office does not offer assistance for obtaining OPs.

    • Extra Patrol: The report notes a request for extra patrol, but this was an offer made by Officer Harris, not a request from me. The narrative should reflect that this was an officer-initiated offer.

During the break in and when my car was vulnerable – unable to lock because of Tesla’s comments about change ownership – the car wouldn’t lock.  I had removed everything from the car – including the rubber mats which are never moved – then I pulled the carpets out that were on the floor board which are under the rubber mats.  This is when I discovered the spider sacks and took pictures of the evidence – which I still have on my computer and phone.  The police officer would not come to the house and my mom talked me out of him coming as she and the police officer discussed issue on the phone while I was there.  My mom wouldn’t go look in the vehicle either as she is in a lot of pain and it’s hard for her to move.  So I took evidence of the pictures.
