📄 2024-04-29 Incident – Break-In Concern
I reported a break-in. What I received was judgment and more trauma—trust shattered by the ones meant to protect.

Dana reported a suspected break-in at her residence after hearing the door open on her security system. Although her cameras had been recently tampered with—an issue tied to known Xfinity security breaches—and she provided details of abnormal water usage and suspected unauthorized entry, police did not investigate further. Instead, they referred Dana to the Mobile Crisis Unit, framing the situation as a mental health issue rather than a potential crime.

Concerns:

  • Physical security concerns were dismissed without in-person verification.

  • Referrals to mental health resources were made despite technical evidence of camera tampering and repeated break-in attempts.

  • Dana’s broader pattern of reporting surveillance and tampering was not taken seriously.

This incident reflects the recurring failure of local authorities to investigate credible safety threats and the misuse of wellness checks as a means of invalidation.

Summary of Incident: April 29, 2024 – Check on Welfare / Possible Break-In (Incident Report 2024-00004345)

Location: 1413 Sequoia Drive, Chatham, IL
Summary:

  • Dana reported suspected break-ins at her residence, citing concerns that individuals, potentially maintenance staff or others with key access, were entering her home without permission.

  • She installed physical security measures, such as window bars and cameras, due to repeated incidents, including unauthorized access and tampering with water lines, which caused significant spikes in her water bill.

  • Dana described hearing her door open on the security camera system, but when asked by the police for further details, she indicated that the cameras had been disabled remotely.

  • Xfinity security systems appeared compromised, with multiple breaches noted. Dana experienced repeated issues when trying to reset passwords, disconnect devices, and troubleshoot her cameras remotely. These technical difficulties often resulted in Xfinity urging her to schedule technician visits rather than assisting her over the phone.

  • Instead of addressing the break-in concerns, the responding officer referred Dana to the Mobile Crisis Unit (MCU), framing the issue as a mental health concern rather than a security issue.

Concerns:

  • Despite reports of physical evidence, such as camera tampering and abnormal water usage, the police treated the situation as a potential mental health issue rather than a legitimate security threat.

  • The Mobile Crisis Unit was contacted instead of investigating the suspected break-ins, which minimized Dana's concerns about ongoing unauthorized access.

  • The repeated technical issues with Xfinity cameras and home security measures raised concerns about external breaches and surveillance-related tampering.

This incident highlights the recurring theme of inadequate follow-up regarding security concerns and an overreliance on mental health referrals instead of conducting thorough investigations into reported break-ins and tampering.

There are several instances where her water was tripped in the basement bathroom causing the water to flow and increase her water bill by several hundred dollars.  Someone was breaking in either by having key access or some other means.  She had to put bars up in each of her windows and do physical security along with the cameras.  Instead of taking these threats seriously she was referred to the mobile crisis unit that were not concerned with her mental well being.  The cameras were tampered with often and later there is documentation of the mirroring and intentional security breaches of Xfinity.  Mirror of phone, people coming into home and asking to login to your account on their phone, overly helpful, when turning off the home security they call and want you to turn in back on, they have issues when changing the wifi password so that it actually cuts all the connections to the cameras and they insist on technicians coming out instead of them trouble shooting over the phone – I’ve had almost a 100 phone calls with them and their security issues.

My Response to Incident Report: 2024-00004345

  • Mobile Crisis Unit Call: The record indicates that I was referred to the MCU; however, the recommendation came from the responding officer, not a direct request from me. Any details or conclusions from MCU’s involvement would be beneficial for my records.

  • Break-in Concerns: My security system experienced tampering following a data breach with my internet provider, which contributed to my concerns. Additional context regarding this incident’s handling by officers is requested.
